A Flower Does Not Think of Competing to the Flower Next to It. It Just Blooms – Zen Shin

It can be difficult not to constantly compare ourselves to others. While so many of us have things to be happy about and grateful for, I think there’s a part of us that always finds ways to question the importance of our achievements.

Let me ask you something. Have you ever found yourself saying, “Wow, I wish I had what he or she has!” or “Well, maybe my accomplishment isn’t so great if others have done it too?” Or maybe you just find yourself doubting that your achievements are worth any praise. To be honest, I think we’ve all been there, and while no one wants to feel this way, I think that sometimes, it’s natural.

The important thing to remember though is that our accomplishments do matter. What doesn’t matter is if someone has accomplished more than you have or if they’ve accomplished the same things. An accomplishment is a wonderful thing and you should be proud of yourself for achieving it! You should be happy also for others who have accomplished their goals.

Take a moment and think of nature. Nature is beautiful without having to compare itself to others or compete with the world around it. The trees don’t look around and think, “Hey, that one’s taller than me!” and flowers don’t say, “Now, is that fair that the rose over there is blooming and I haven’t yet?” No! Each tree and flower are stunning in its own unique way.  We don’t have to compete with others to be special and important!

Look at yourself in the mirror or just consider all the amazing things about yourself. Don’t put others into the equation. The only person who you have to compete with is yourself.

About B.G.

Hi. I enjoy writing and sharing my experiences with others. For many years, I have struggled with anxiety and know how difficult it is to deal with something so seemingly limiting. My hobbies include: writing, reading, watching TV, and working hard to get through my anxiety. I hope that through my writing I can help others realize that they are not alone in their struggles and that they can overcome their obstacles! I currently have blogs at www.gettingthroughanxiety.wordpress.com and www.restinpieceblog.wordpress.com - In addition, I am the author of the fantasy-horror novel, Rest in Piece and short story collection, Abstract Clarity.

  1. This makes me sad, I wrote a blog exactly like this one week ago. Used the same exact quote. I really hope this isn’t plagiarism…

    • Kylee this post was written by one of our contributors almost 3 months ago and has been sitting in the queue waiting for posting just as long…I can assure you it has absolutely nothing to do with any recent post of yours. All our Seeds use popular quotes as their titles, and many people write posts using these same quotes. Nothing more than a simple coincidence that’s all.

  2. Great post! We are only in competition with ourselves. Important to remember as well is that there’s plenty of all the good stuff to go around for everyone!
