What does it mean to have courage?

In movies and storybooks, it seems like the main character often displays their courage in bold, athletic acts. Maybe they save children who are trapped under a giant boulder. Or maybe they jump in front of a car that’s skidding toward an innocent bystander.

Truthfully, we probably will never be faced with these dramatic scenarios in our lifetime. In fact, most of our lives are very quiet in comparison. However, whether we’re taking action or sitting still, each of us are being courageous in our own way.

Sometimes an act of courage is simply facing a new day with a determined attitude. Or refusing to give up on a goal. Courage is the motivator of many small acts – like standing up for yourself or helping a friend in need.

When times get tough, it can be easy to feel low about yourself. But don’t forget that by facing the tough times and trying to prevail, you are being your own quiet, courageous hero.
