The ego is often a large and very stubborn part of us. It refuses to let go of anything and it takes offense to everything. The ego is the sole reason for most of the issues we face – on a personal level and on a global level – because it keeps us from seeing things clearly, as they really are.
A little bit of ego is good to have, and in fact quite healthy. But if you let your ego roam freely around your mind and if you allow it to take control over your subconscious, you will give it permission to do as it pleases. It will grow, and keep growing. And when that happens, it usually doesn’t turn very pleasant – for you or for anyone around you.
It is because of the ego that we see and experience violence, jealousy, and anger. It is the ego that forces us to seek recognition and approval. It is due to the ego that we take offense to the things people say, even though it might not have had anything to do with us in the first place. It is the ego acting when we can’t find it within ourselves to forgive the people who have wronged us. It is the ego’s fault when we can’t say “I’m sorry” – when that might be all it takes to save a relationship.
But if we can strip our ego off our backs and shake it out of our minds, we can start seeing the world for what it really is. We will be more honest with ourselves and more loving to the people around us. We will feel the peace shining from within, because there is nothing there to drown it.
When we strip our ego we will live a more understanding, loving, and peaceful life with true purpose to our divine being. We will find true self-worth and understand self-growth, and we’ll be able to see the worth of others and love each and everyone just as they are. Even ourselves.
