It has been said perception drives reality, meaning our view of our world actually shapes our world, more so than the “reality” of it.
I was reading a book the other night and in it, there was a reference to a study done with a tribe in Namibia. This tribe has no word for the color “blue.” The experiment was to take a circle with a bunch of boxes colored green, and one box colored blue. The researchers asked the people to point out the box that was different, and the Namibian tribe couldn’t do it. They had no language, no concept for the color “blue,” they couldn’t perceive it.
It makes me think of the power of our perception. Your world is continually shaped by how you view it, that is, which “glasses” you are looking through.
In any situation, we get to choose how to view it. We can look at the bright side, the dark side, the red side, the neither side. We get to decide how to take this moment into our lives, how to allow it to affect us.
I’m not saying we should all just sing love hymns through every situation, because sometimes…life hurts.
However, we can take that hurt and grow from it, we can allow our perception of it to improve us, to make us stronger, to make us smarter, to make us softer.
We can choose which glasses to look through. Our reality is ours alone. No one can create it for us and no one can make us look at it a certain way.
Those decisions are ALWAYS up to us.
So no matter what you are going through (amazing in its pleasure or amazing in its pain), you get to choose how you perceive it. Take a moment (or as many as it takes) and choose how you want to shape your world for this moment and for your future.
