We do not own our lovers. They do not own us. We choose to share our presence with them and they choose to share their presence with us. To possess something is to stifle its unique being and to project our own wants and expectations on to them. To appreciate their uniqueness and their self is to love unconditionally.
Loving unconditionally opens us up to become students of these who we invite in to become our lovers. Loving unconditionally opens us up to showing ourselves as we are, without the fear of rejection or judgement.
If we do not project these fears and judgement, we do not fear them either. Love the lover, for who they are, what they bring, and who they help us become. Be the lover without possessing the one we love, admire them flourishing in their uniqueness and allow them to see ourselves in their light as we see them in ours.
We do not own our lovers. They do not own us. We are but here, together, to light up the world with the light we ignite in each other.
