The True Secret of Happiness Lies in Taking a Genuine Interest in All the Details of Daily Life – William Morris

It has been said that humans have the ability to adjust to change quickly. This is probably for the best, as many life changes can be difficult. On the other hand, this also means we can probably adjust to a daily routine easily.

But what’s the difference between being adjusted and comfortable with our daily routine or being disinterested – or even bored – with it?

I’ve been guilty of becoming disinterested in the daily tasks and routine in front of me, even if my days are filled with things I once enjoyed and even relished. This is something I want to change, since an important key to happiness is keeping interested in your everyday life. After all, most of our days are ordinary.

It may not come naturally, but you have the choice to focus on staying interested and excited in the world, people, and tasks in front of you. This could mean appreciating the exercise you get from walking your dog, or enjoying that you have time to listen to a podcast during your commute to work. These small things could even turn a rough day into a good one.
