You Are Not Required to Set Yourself on Fire to Keep Other People Warm – Unknown

I have noticed you have lent your ear to many. You have shared your time without regret. You have allowed for many to lean on your shoulder while they have cried. You have given everything and continue to; without being asked, without expecting anything in return. But you are exhausted. Your cup is slowly becoming empty, but you do not allow anyone to take a peek to see.

I have noticed they come to you for help and you never turn them away. You are present, with the face of a hero. In a cold world, you have set yourself on fire to keep other people warm. And they continue to come to be warmed by you, while ashes begin to appear at your feet.

Your kindness and compassion is admired. It is appreciated. It is so very needed in this world. Thank you for sharing this part of yourself with the rest of us. My hope is kindness and compassion are reciprocated to you when you need it as well, because kindness is most valuable when it is paid forward and finds its way back to us. So I will ask you to extinguish the fire that is reducing yourself to ash. Allow your kindness and compassion to be paid forward and to find its way back to you.

  1. I LOVE the title. Unfortunately I’ve done the equivalent of setting my hair on fire in a mistaken attempt to help someone else. We live and learn. Right?
