It can be difficult not to constantly compare ourselves to others. While so many of us have things to be happy about and grateful for, I think there’s a part of us that always finds ways to question the importance of our achievements.
Let me ask you something. Have you ever found yourself saying, “Wow, I wish I had what he or she has!” or “Well, maybe my accomplishment isn’t so great if others have done it too?” Or maybe you just find yourself doubting that your achievements are worth any praise. To be honest, I think we’ve all been there, and while no one wants to feel this way, I think that sometimes, it’s natural.
The important thing to remember though is that our accomplishments do matter. What doesn’t matter is if someone has accomplished more than you have or if they’ve accomplished the same things. An accomplishment is a wonderful thing and you should be proud of yourself for achieving it! You should be happy also for others who have accomplished their goals.
Take a moment and think of nature. Nature is beautiful without having to compare itself to others or compete with the world around it. The trees don’t look around and think, “Hey, that one’s taller than me!” and flowers don’t say, “Now, is that fair that the rose over there is blooming and I haven’t yet?” No! Each tree and flower are stunning in its own unique way. We don’t have to compete with others to be special and important!
Look at yourself in the mirror or just consider all the amazing things about yourself. Don’t put others into the equation. The only person who you have to compete with is yourself.
