We Can Never Obtain Peace in the Outer World Until We Make Peace With Ourselves – Dalai Lama

Everybody wants to make the world a better place. Whether it’s for our home, our community, or an entire country, we do truly want to put our best foot forward and help others.

If this sometimes feels easier said than done, there may be a reason for that. It’s difficult to focus on making the world a better place if we don’t feel like we’re in a good place on the inside – emotionally, mentally, or even physically.

It may seem backward, or selfish, but it’s better to focus on being at ease with ourselves before trying to improve the people, places, and things around us. Think of it like a two-step process.

We first set the goal of having inner peace. After doing what we need to do to accomplish that goal, we are then prepared to put all of our energy into the second goal of bringing peace or bettering some aspect of the outer world we can change.

It’s okay if your biggest project is yourself at the moment. Even if you don’t realize it, by bettering yourself you are bettering the world.

  1. That is so beautiful…… I am my project right now and it makes total sense because I can’t help others until I am at my best, or at least the best I can get to bc we are always a work in progress.
