From time to time, I find it so tempting to compare myself to others. It can be easy to compare myself with strangers over social media, or in person with my close friends and family. I can compare my career, personal relationships, health goals, and hobbies to those of others. And once I start to compare, I begin to feel worried and go down a rabbit hole.
Whenever it’s tempting to feel bad or insecure about ourselves in comparison to another person’s journey, it’s important to take a step back and think. Are we actually unhappy with our life or some aspect of it? Should we actually be concerned? Or do we have an unrealistic idea of what someone else’s life looks like, and do we have the unrealistic idea that we should be just like them?
When I ask myself these questions, I’ll usually realize that I am content with where I am and should not be concerned. Or, if I am actually concerned, that may mean it’s time for me to change something in my life. But changing my life must be a decision that comes from within. It is a decision that must be made out of my own desire, not because I am comparing myself to someone else’s journey.
