Don’t Compare Yourself to Others. You Have No Idea What Their Journey Is All about – Regina Brett

From time to time, I find it so tempting to compare myself to others. It can be easy to compare myself with strangers over social media, or in person with my close friends and family. I can compare my career, personal relationships, health goals, and hobbies to those of others. And once I start to compare, I begin to feel worried and go down a rabbit hole.

Whenever it’s tempting to feel bad or insecure about ourselves in comparison to another person’s journey, it’s important to take a step back and think. Are we actually unhappy with our life or some aspect of it? Should we actually be concerned? Or do we have an unrealistic idea of what someone else’s life looks like, and do we have the unrealistic idea that we should be just like them?

When I ask myself these questions, I’ll usually realize that I am content with where I am and should not be concerned. Or, if I am actually concerned, that may mean it’s time for me to change something in my life. But changing my life must be a decision that comes from within. It is a decision that must be made out of my own desire, not because I am comparing myself to someone else’s journey.

  2. Very true! You should just be yourself

  3. I love this message. In a time where social media has pretty much dominated society, its natural for anybody to feel this way. Thank you for this post!

  4. Very insightful. We are all unique, and have very specific talents and gifts. Praise someone for how they have utilized their gifts, and use their talents. Then get back to minding your own business, in your own lane, using your own moxey.

We are not twins in the non-biological sense. We are individuals. Besides, the adage about the grass being greener has lots of merit. You’ve got your bootstraps, and I have mine. Different pull to be sure!!!

  5. I think the best advice you can give in terms of comparing is just assume that everyone else is going through what you’re going through. That’ll allow you to see them in different light 🙂 Thanks for talking about this topic 🙂 Could you take a look at my latest post? https://mzukowskiblog.wordpress.com/2018/01/24/no-5-ive-got-a-plan-for-us/

  6. Great gentle reminder to be kind to yourself and love your life ❤️
