Don’t Worry About Being Original. Just Be Authentic – Elizabeth Gilbert

I thought this was a wonderful way to approach whatever endeavors we are involved in. It’s being yourself which grounds and guides us.

The start of the year, significant birthday or any milestone event, arrives and fills us with new possibilities for the future. But along with our enthusiasm can come an unwitting loss of direction. We can succumb to the comparison trap or try too hard to mimic others. At this moment our own voice can be lost and this is precisely what we don’t want. Whatever we are doing it is our individuality which makes it real and authentic.

We must remember millions of stories have been written, millions of paintings painted, millions of inventions created, (you get my drift) but only you can do your thing, so make it as true to yourself as you can.

I think of all the things which inspire me. They are not all the first of their kind, but what they do has a resonance all their own.

  1. Great piece! Very inspiring for me, especially starting off my blog! Gives me motivation to keep moving forward. Thank you!

  2. I found this to be a very important message and solid advice, something I think more bloggers should read about and take to heart. Great post!

  3. Thank you for sharing this post, really inspiring and grounding. Thank you

  4. A great reminder, to be authentically you! Much needed.

  5. This really resonates today. I’d become complacent over Christmas, posting out same-y blogs that I knew people like to read, but aren’t very ‘me’. I’m committed to being way more discerning this year!
