Maybe Who We Are Isn’t So Much About What We Do, but Rather What We’re Capable of When We Least Expect It – Jodi Picoult

Character is not measured so much by what we do, or who we or others think we are. Character is only something we can find out more about or understand when we are put through things that test us as human beings.

On a regular basis, on a normal day, we can do what we want and be who we choose to be. But when we are tested or put in front of situations we are not used to, something happens within us: our core comes out. Who we really are can’t help but come forth to sort the situation or problem out in a way that comes naturally to us and who we are deep down.

What we are capable of when we least expect it, is measured by what power we have within us. And that power is always much stronger than any power we think we have. When we are tested, we shine because we let go of any beliefs or ideas about ourselves and just perform. It is, in short, our core power that makes things happen for us – simply because everything else is stripped down and we are faced with who we really are.

The wonderful thing about this core power is that we can choose to let it out – we can allow it to perform for us daily, in anything that we do and take on. It is who we truly are, and if we allow ourselves to become that, we can’t help but become the shining star that we were born to be!

  1. This is an amazing post, and so true as well. Its easy to pretend to be something we are not, and its easy to be afraid to show our true selves. When humans are in fight or flight mode, thats when we are in our truest form.

  2. Great post Jo!
It is when we are tested with challenging circumstances that we realise how strong we are at our core. When faced with adversity, this can accelerate our personal growth.

It is interesting how you use the word ‘allowing’ to let this intelligence work through you. What approaches, on a daily basis do you use to stay in this higher state of consciousness? (your core power).

What do you find works best ?

    Dave 🙂
