In our pursuit of happiness, and with the stress that it brings to many of us, it is easy to forget what happiness is really all about. As we pursue happiness, we get so caught up in the things we need, want, or must have in order for us to be happy. This causes a huge amount of stress as we must always keep going, keep working, keep looking for that thing that will help us feel at peace.
But sometimes, all we need to do is to stop the big search and look around ourselves, in our close vicinity. Because as we pursue happiness, we become blind to the things that really matter – the things that make us truly happy right now.
Do you have a loving family? Or wonderful friends? Do you like your job? Do you have a reasonable amount of free time where you can do things you enjoy doing? Is the sun shining on you? Did you bring a delicious lunch to work that’s waiting, perhaps this very moment, to be devoured?
In your pursuit of happiness, make sure you don’t look so hard that you can’t see the forest for all the trees. Don’t take things for granted – the things that put a smile on your face or that creates that tingly feeling somewhere inside. In your pursuit of happiness, do not forget to pause and enjoy what is in this very moment. Because the secret is this: true happiness is right now.
