I’ve always been a person with a plan. Always. I would plan for the day ahead, the week, the month, and, of course, the year. But also for several years to come. I would have big parts of life planned out, almost down to the point as to what year I would do this and what year I would do that.
But then I realized that this kind of planning doesn’t really work. Sure, the things I planned for would sometimes work out exactly the way I thought, but more often, they did not.
When I was younger, it used to hit me pretty hard if things didn’t turn out the way I wanted them to. But then I started understanding why they didn’t. It was simply because life and my purpose on this planet got in between.
There are always things we cannot foresee; things in life that happen that we cannot control. These can be good or bad. But no matter what, we can’t undo them or change them. We can only decide on how we react to them, and where to go from that moment.
Sure, we can keep goals and plan for things that we wish to happen – in fact, we should. This helps us move forward, towards something in life. But we should also keep in mind that life sometimes has other plans for us – and that’s okay! Stay open to this, and the changes that come around will be easier to deal with.
We’re here on Earth to experience a life, so let’s not forget to do that very thing, by living here in this moment, letting life unfold in front of us. We need to get better at trusting the process of life, and not be too set on our goals so that we cannot deal with the unplanned when it happens.
